Further to Tesla facing a class action on its EV range claims, The Dawn Project tested whether Tesla is inflating its range estimates.
The Dawn Project conducted three tests along a 58 mile journey between Goleta and Santa Maria, California, to see whether Tesla’s range estimates for its Model Y were accurate. Watch the results below:
The Dawn Project used Tesla Full Self-Driving version 13.2.8 on Chill, Hurry, and Standard mode to test whether the range meter went down in line with Tesla’s range estimates, and found on each occasion that the estimates were not accurate.
On The Dawn Project’s first and second tests, using FSD in Hurry Mode and Standard Mode, we found that Tesla’s range distance was overstated by 69%.
On The Dawn Project’s third test, using FSD in Chill Mode, Tesla’s range distance estimation was still out by 41%.
