Dan O’Dowd, Founder of The Dawn Project, was interviewed for Intelligent Machines, part of the This Week in Tech podcast, about the critical risk posed by cybersecurity vulnerabilities in critical infrastructure. Dan explained how lax cybersecurity standards and the adoption of Silicon Valley’s “move fast and break things” software development philosophy has left critical systems such as the power grid and water treatment plants vulnerable to a major cyberattack.

Dan O’Dowd commented: “[Zuckerberg] wrote on the wall, “move fast and break things”…What does that mean? It means write the software as fast as you can and don’t worry if it doesn’t really doesn’t work all the time if it fails some of the time because that’s how you become a trillionaire.”
“You just got to get it out first and best; push it out and you fix the bugs later. That works if you’re doing desktop software. It works for your phone, it works for all sorts of things. It doesn’t work when everybody dies when it fails.”
